How far is the lake and lawn from the barn?

The Lake is just short of ½ mile from The Great Barn, with the Farmhouse Lawn 300 yards from the barn.

How many guests can The Great Barn accommodate?

180 for a wedding breakfast, and 250 with evening guests.

How many guests can The Threshing Hall accommodate?

150 maximum.

Is the venue wheelchair/pushchair accessible?

Yes, there is an entrance outside ‘The Forge’ which then leads to The Cart Shed.

Are there other events scheduled in the same day?

No, the wedding venue and cottages are exclusive to you and your wedding party from day 1 to day 3.

How long does a civil ceremony take?

Around 30 minutes, a little longer with readings or music.

Can we sign the Register in the Threshing Hall?

Yes. The hall is licenced for the ceremony and the signing as is the lake.

If you were to choose the Farmhouse lawn for your ceremony you would sign the Register in the Great Barn or the Threshing Hall.

Are there adequate toilet facilities?

Yes, we have a male, female and disabled toilets. (Baby changing facilities within the disabled toilet).

Is there an outdoor space where my guests can mingle, and can it be heated and/or protected from the elements if necessary?

Yes, there is an outdoor area which is perfect for reception drinks. This area is great for lighting the fire pits after your ceremony and wedding breakfast.

Are we allowed candles?

We allow candles in the Great Barn on tables for your wedding breakfast during the day, however, in the evening these must be replaced by battery operated candles.

What is your payment and cancellation policy?

Once the deposit has been paid the remaining payments are staggered as follows:

  • 30% 6 months before
  • 30% 4 months before
  • 30% 2 months before
  • 10% 1 month before

In the event of a cancellation all payments made are non-refundable. We strongly advise that the client has adequate insurance should a cancellation occur. If the cancellation occurs within 4 months of arrival we will require full payment. We also reserve the right to cancel a booking if payments are not made.

What is your alcohol policy?

Only alcohol purchased from The Turnbull Bar (our venue bar) may be consumed within the venue and its local vicinity ie the area around the venue.

Our bar can serve beverages from 11am until 2am.

Do you offer corkage?

No

Is the rental fee cheaper if we don’t book a weekend?

Yes, weekend weddings cost more due to higher demand.

How long can you provisionally hold a date for us?

5 days.

Pets - can we take our pet with us?

Yes, pets are allowed in all of the cottages and the venue. We do ask that all dogs are kept on a lead as we are surrounded by livestock.

Is confetti permitted?

Yes, only biodegradable confetti is permitted to be thrown outside the venue. We do not allow rice to be used as confetti.

Do you offer 'one' day weddings?

Yes, we now offer ‘Monday’ only weddings which include the use of the bridal suite. There is no obligation to use our holiday cottage accommodation. Please contact us for a quote.

What footwear should I bring?

Many brides and grooms bring wellies should they use the Lake, Farmhouse lawn or fields surrounding the venue for photos.

Logistics & Cottages

What time can my vendors start setting up on the day of the wedding?

You can start to set up from 1pm on your arrival day. For Monday weddings please speak to your wedding co-ordinator to gain an accurate access time.

How early can deliveries be made?

This can be arranged with your wedding co-ordinator.

How much time will I have for décor setup?

You have from 10am on your arrival day until your actual wedding day.

Do you provide a coat check service?

Yes, we have a coat hanger rail specifically for you and your wedding party.

Can we bring our own decorations, flowers etc?

Yes you can bring your own decorations and flowers to make to venue to your taste as long as there are no nails, drawing pins, hooks or screws attached to any part of the building. Everything must be tied and removed the day after your wedding.

What time can we arrive at Doxford Barns on our first day?

You can have access to the venue from 10am and the cottages from 1pm.

Will there be another event the day before our stay?

We spend the day before you arrive cleaning the venue and setting up the tables to your specification.

Do you allow children at the Barns?

Yes, we welcome children to Doxford Barns but ask that they are supervised at all times.

Do you have any high chairs we can use?

Yes, there are high chairs in the great barn and the cottages.

Do you have cots in the cottages?

Yes, please let us know if you require a cot. We ask that you bring your own bedding for a travel cot.

Do you have noise restrictions at Doxford Barns?

There are no noise restrictions within the great barn as the room is sound proofed and is 500 yards from the cottages.

Cottages

Do you have a Bridal Suite?

Yes, ‘The Hayloft’ has been revamped into a modern bridal suite which is located 200 yards from the great barn.

Where does the bride normally get ready?

The Hayloft (Bridal Suite)

Linen - what is provided?

All bed linen, bath towels, tea towels, kitchen cleaning products, toilet and kitchen roll are provided.

Arrival and Departure - what time can we arrive and when do we have to leave?

3pm on your arrival day and we ask you to vacate by 10am on your departure day. Monday weddings please speak to your wedding co-ordinator regarding cottage arrival times.

Problems - what do we do if something unexpected occurs?

The Doxford Barns staff will try to do everything possible to make sure you have a pleasurable time, but sometime things can go wrong. If a problem occurs you should immediately contact Sarah, who is responsible for the management and maintenance of the cottages.

Do any of the cottages have downstairs rooms for disabled?

Yes

How do I get the keys for the property?

When we confirm the details of your booking, we will advise you of how to collect the keys and where they are located.

Do you provide insurance?

No. There are many comprehensive insurance providers online, offering reasonable holiday insurance, as well as cancellation cover for weddings. Your wedding co-ordinator may ask to see proof of such insurance.

What is the Security Deposit?

On arrival we will require a credit/debit card and we take a pre-authorisation of £1000. This doesn’t take any money out of your account.

How many sets of keys are provided?

It is at the clients’ discretion how they allocate cottages to friends and family. We will provide 1 set of keys per cottage to guests.

Do the cottages have free wifi?

Yes

Do you provide Travel Cots & High Chairs?

We have 3 high chairs and travel cots available within the cottages. There are also 3 high chairs within the venue. It is the clients’ responsibility to inform their wedding planner of infants that will require the above mentioned. We ask that you provide your own linen for travel cots.
